The Inn - Radhiya Ali- (QI 2015)

Reflections on Surah Muminoon

Wealth and children- Valued possessions of Man.

They are but adornments of this world.

Beaten to dust in the end, without any traces,

Gasping at their life’s toil coming to a naught.

Mankind recalls its strife, oh so vain!

This is but a respite for a while,

In the soul’s journey to its destination;

Like a weary traveler on his way home-

Resting a while where nothing is his,

Indeed a temporary abode it is, the Inn-

Where the gullible mankind is in delusion,

That this life which is transient, is forever.

Nay! It’s nothing but a self-preparation-

Strife to be righteous making oneself worthy,

For a blissful life that continues for eternity,

As promised by the One and the Only Almighty,

Allah, our Creator, the Lord of All,

Who was, is, and will be!

He will say, ‘How many years did you tarry on the earth?’ They will say, ‘We tarried there for a day or part of a day. Ask those able to count!’ He will say, ‘You only tarried there for a little while if you did but know! Did you suppose that We created you for amusement and that you would not return to Us?’ (Surat al-Mu’minun: 112-115)
