My next stop: Surah Maryam- by Mariam Arafat (QI 2015)

If anyone wants to learn the true manners of making a du’a, then this is the surah you need to study. ( سبحان الله) the humility and tawakkul (trust in Allah) that is shown by Zakariya (عليه السلام‎), teaches me a lot about the etiquettes of how to ask Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) for something:

  • First, we need to realize our own weaknesses.

  • Then, we need to make du’a to Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) with patience and have complete trust in Allah.

  • Moreover, we need to have sincerity in the heart.

  • Most importantly, we shouldn’t just make du’as for ourselves, but also for the entire Ummah.

Also, Surah Mariam portrays the true character of  Mariam (عليه السلام‎). She should be a role model for all of us. Every single thing about her, from her chastity, to her submission to Allah’s commandments, her gratefulness to Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) and her sabr and complete trust in Allah through all the trials she faced, are truly admirable and inspirational qualities. As a result of her utmost faith in Allah, He (سبحانه و تعالى) endowed her with a lot of blessings.   A great fadl (blessing) was to be made a mother of the Prophet. Moreover, she was raised under the supervision of a Prophet.

As my journey through the Qur’an continues, I have realized that the Qur’an is an ocean in which if you dive once, and taste the sweetness of it, you can’t ever come out! It is a grooming course, a manual, a guidance to every aspect of our life, an encyclopedia about all the mukhlooq (creation). This book is a criterion that tells us the right from the wrong. Moreover, it describes the end result for the path we chose. It shows us the mercy of our Creator, His kingdom, His power, and most importantly it shows how much He loves us.
