Hesitant Initiative -by Kiran Salim (QI-2016)

I wanted to walk in bright sunlight

and feel the warmth on my face,

it looked so pleasant from inside the glass,

and tempted me to step ahead.

Curiosity took the better of me,

with excitement the heart skipped a beat;

decision making did take some time,

and so did collecting the things in need.

The more time spent, the more I planned,

the image grew much pleasant;

with the sunshine now, I planned so much,

picnic, cycling, leisure walks on sand.

With plans and dreams I stepped out,

but to find nothing how I imagined;

the sun had gotten much fiercer with time,

and my skin got furiously burnt.

It took some time to adjust myself,

and in bright light, my vision;

the shock was much but by this time

the reality had somewhat kicked in.

My first instinct was to run back home

in my protective glass shelter,

but of all the wrongs that are in me,

I’m anything but a quitter.

I tried to figure where I went wrong

and that is when I figured;

the requirement is not to enjoy sunlight as long as it may last,

the requirement is in goods and bads and in giving the best we have.

It is a test, in all we do,

and however the things may turn;

if Allah pushed me to walk in the sun,

He’ll surely make me learn.
