Falling in Love with Allah - by Jannah Dixione (QI- 2016)

In today’s world everything tells us that all is possible for the sake of love. In songs and movies, we are encouraged to “fight” to get this love and told that “nothing else matters as long as we are together”. Love is described as the ultimate source of happiness. As a matter of fact, everyone runs after it desperately hoping to fill up this emptiness in their heart.

Unfortunately, this love never lasts for long and majority of us realize too late that precious time is wasted in trying to catch an illusion. More sadly, this type of love leads some of us to a state of mind and heart worse than before.

What is the problem with us that pushes us towards love but does not seem to give us real and lasting happiness?

The answer is right before our eyes, mentioned in the Holy Quran:

“And [yet], among the people are those who take other than Allah as equals [to Him]. They love them as they [should] love Allah. But those who believe are stronger in love for Allah”. (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:165)

Who knows us best other than Our Creator? Who other than Allah can feel and understand the tiniest emotion concealed in our heart?

Unless and until we do not accept the fact that true love cannot be found in people like us, our heart will remain barren.  The only true love which is able to fill our hearts with complete happiness is the love of Allah!

Every day which we experience, should become a new reason for falling in love with Allah again and again. Isn’t it that the highest degree of love is called worship? Worshipping Allah alone is indeed our purpose of life and the key of success in this life and the Hereafter.

Falling in love with the perfection is the strongest feeling a human being can ever experience and this is what every one of us should be racing for! Love makes us do things with determination and it keeps our heart between two distinctive emotions:  the hope of always pleasing the One we love and the fear of doing anything which could displease Him. Obeying Allah’s commands consequently becomes easy if we truly love Him from the bottom of our heart. Then why are we so scared to fall in love with The One Who calls Himself: The Loving One, The Source of peace, The Guardian, The Reliever, The All Merciful, The Only One?!

The more we know about Allah, the more intensely we love Him and the easiest it becomes to worship Him. His names and attributes mentioned in the Holy Quran are the most precious information for us to ponder upon.If only we are brave enough to fully submit our heart into it. Our mistake sometimes is to not completely submit ourselves to His power and we continue to occupy our heart with unworthy things. Allah deserves our hearts in full without any restriction, totally submitted to Him Alone.

You might ask: What is to love others for Allah’s sake? Prophet Mohammed (saw) said:

Allah would say on the Day of Judgment: “Where are those who love each other for the sake of My glory? Today I will shelter them with My shade, as there is no shade today except My shade”.” (Muslim)

Loving our family members, friends and people in general is a natural feeling that we are not asked to suppress in any case if it is for Allah’s sake. It is actually highly encouraged considering the great reward given for it.  Loving others for the sake of Allah is the most amazing feeling! This love keeps us in control of our emotions and makes us take from each relation a step towards Paradise. The purity of this love keeps us free from expecting anything in return of it and it leads to the most peaceful social life.

Regarding the rewards for loving each other for Allah, Prophet Mohammed (saw) said:

“If Allah would love his servant He would call Angel Gabriel (as) and tell him “I love this person, therefore love him.” And Angel Gabriel (as) would love him and call out in the heavens “Allah loves this person, therefore love him.” And the inhabitants of the heavens would love him. Then he would be embraced by the people of this world. But if Allah would abhor his servant, He would call Angel Gabriel (as) and tell him “I abhor this person, therefore abhor him”. And Angel Gabriel (as) would abhor him and call out in the heavens “Allah abhors this person, therefore abhor him.” And the inhabitants of the heavens would abhor him. Then he would be abhorred by the people of this world.” (Muslim)

It has now become clear that people’s love cannot be achieved except through the love of Allah. Why are we then waiting to get to know Allah and deeply fall in love with Him?

O Allah, I ask You for Your love, the love of whoever loves You and the love of the deed which will draw me in attaining Your love.

Ameen
